Whole-home acoustics
Healthy sound for sleep, speech and quiet living
Whole-home acoustics is not a layer of panels added after the cinema is built. Layout, isolation, materials and field measurement are designed together so the house is quiet when it should be, and clear when people talk. At ZENE, acoustics sit in the same project as cinema, lighting and low-voltage.
About 32 dB background for deep sleep; 300–800 ms reverberation for homes (Tsinghua University Architectural Acoustics Lab & WELL™). Aligned with China’s “Good Housing” agenda, and with private cinema work.
1. Listen to the roomMeasure noise, reverberation and leak points. Bedrooms, living rooms and cinemas get different targets.
2. Draw with the interiorWalls, doors, ceiling, rack and access panels are fixed on drawings before site work.
3. MaterialsIsolation uses Bonda wall/floor build-ups and Soundbox OFF mats. Absorption and diffusion use Soundbox engineering / easy systems and Gabriel VIEW. Targets first, then products.
4. Measure and hand overPrivate cinemas get an HAA report. Living spaces are checked against sleep noise and reverberation — not against “panels installed”.
Four situations
- Bedrooms and studies: lower noise, control reverberation
- Open living and double-height volumes: large ceiling absorption (VIEW coverage above 75% in open plans), optional acoustic art or geometric diffusion on walls
- Private cinema: HAA design and calibration, with a report
- Clubs, dining and offices: designed for clear speech, not a dead room
Gabriel VIEW
Danish Gabriel VIEW: a patented core and aluminium frame that changes the sound path and absorbs part of the energy. The line is “designed for better communication” — offices, meeting rooms, halls, studios, museums, schools, hotels, and residential open ceilings and walls.
- VIEW / Cinema — up to about 1.2 × 2.4 m, aluminium frame, magnetic fix, fabrics chosen with the interior. Absorption tested to EN-ISO 354 / ISO 11654 and GB/T 20247 / GB/T 16731; flame-retardant polyester versions to B1; VOC not detected in the brochure tests.
- Mono (Lantern / Bird Cage / Garden / Silk) — 3D moulded polyester felt: cavity plus porous fibre to shorten reverberation and keep speech clear.
- Cubic — Nordic block modules, about 400 × 400 mm, NRC about 0.70, for walls and ceilings.
Materials are tools. Room targets come first. Send drawings or book a visit to assess an existing house.
